Form
Your Own Teen Frontier Community
Wouldn’t
it be great to meet with a small group of parents? Consider
creating a great forum for parents, and other caring adults,
who are interested in better relationships with their children
and improving the quality of their teens’ lives. You’ll
work through Teen Frontier’s book “Coach
Your Teen to Success” and build community.
Imagine how much positive support you could offer each other.
Here are some tips to make it a successful group experience:
1. The most effective groups have 6-8 members. (Get started
as soon as you have one other member and other members will
follow.)
2. Meet on the same day and at the same time each week
(or biweekly) to ensure good attendance and to build connection
within your community.
3. Ask members to commit to attending for at least three
months to increase your level of success.
4. Establish your purpose and group guidelines upfront
(instill confidentiality, give equal time for speaking,
limit unsolicited advice, acknowledge each member, stay
focused on the chapters in this book, and be respectful).
5. Rotate experienced facilitators when possible.
6. Ask members to commit to taking specific action prior
to the next meeting.
7. Allow each member to ask for additional support (resource
information, phone support, etc.).
8. Periodically solicit feedback from the group to find
out what is working and what isn’t working.
