  • The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy shows that by the time kids reach ninth grade, a third of teens are having sex.
  • "Fewer Than 1 in 10 Teenagers Believe that Music Piracy is Morally Wrong," The Barna Group, www.barna.org, 2004.
  • The survey of 512 youth ages 12 to 17 by Wirthlin worldwide revealed that since last year, exposure to bullies has increased dramatically among this age group, but particularly among teenage girls. The proportion of [American teenagers] seeing bullying either several times a day or once a day rose from 37 percent in 2001 to 61 percent in 2002.   • According to Amisafe.net, automobile accidents are the leading cause of death for children ages 15-19. Statistics show that although teenagers account for just seven percent of the driving population, they are involved in 14 percent of all accidents and deaths. One out of three teens is involve din a crash during their first year of driving. In 1999 alone, there were over 2,000,000 teen driving crashes and 6,000 deaths (www.amisafe.net., 2003).
  • The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s web site reports that suicide among young people continues to increase dramatically. Teen suicide is considered the second or third leading cause of death for 15-to-24-year-olds, even though it is seriously underreported (www.aacap.org. 2004).
  • According to the National Credit Research Foundation, 55% of students age 16-22 have a major credit card.
